Rep. Kelly again proposes virtual committees, testimony as coronavirus surges
Rep. Brigid Kelly (D-Cincinnati) will sponsor legislation to allow for committees to meet and witnesses to testify virtually amid worsening conditions of the coronavirus pandemic across Ohio. Rep. Kelly introduced similar resolutions in the 133rd General Assembly to allow House committees and Sessions to be conducted virtually.
“No one should have to choose between their health and wellbeing and having their voice heard,” said Rep. Kelly. “We must do all we can to ensure that legislators, staff, and the public are able to safely participate at the Statehouse.”
Today, dozens of advocacy groups sent a letter calling on the legislature to allow for virtual testimony to be allowed for all legislative hearings. The letter also asks that there be a mask mandate for everyone inside the Statehouse including Members.
In the 133rd General Assembly, House Republicans rejected multiple Democratic efforts to require facemasks at the Statehouse and also voted down Rep. Kelly’s proposals to allow for virtual House committees and Sessions.
