COLUMBUS - State Rep. Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati), in partnership with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), today announced that Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) will be awarded a free Automated External Defibrillator (AED) through the Ohio General Assembly and OHSAA’s common effort to require AEDs in schools.

“It is so important that our schools have AEDs in order to ensure the safety of all students at school and while participating in extracurricular activities,” said Rep. Isaacsohn. “I’m very excited to help award this much-needed free AED to Cincinnati Public Schools, as I know CPS will put it to great use for students in District 24.”

Last year, Rep. Isaacsohn and the Ohio General Assembly signed into law House Bill (HB) 47, legislation requiring the placement of an AED in every Ohio school. Sudden cardiac arrest remains the leading cause of death for young athletes, and the placement of an AED in every school will help ensure quick and effective treatment in the event of an emergency.

The free AED will be provided to CPS through a grant from the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Foundation Board of Directors and OHSAA. Through the initiative, OHSAA will provide 32 free AEDs to school districts around the state, including CPS.
