Leader Sykes statement on Biden inauguration, Democrats taking control of Congress
House Minority Leader Emilia Strong Sykes (D-Akron) today issued a statement on Wednesday’s inauguration of Joe Biden as President and Kamala Harris as Vice President of the United States, cementing Democratic control of the White House and both chambers of Congress.
“Americans spoke in November, rejecting the fear and division of the past four years and entrusting Democrats to get our country back on the right track—including the historic election of the first ever woman, Black and Asian American as Vice President,” said Leader Sykes. “The inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris is an opportunity to come together, to heal and to begin the hard work of renewing the promise of better lives, better jobs and brighter futures for all Americans. With the election now over, our job is just beginning. I look forward to working with the Biden-Harris administration to control this virus, rebuild our economy and restore the promise of opportunity for all Americans. Their success is America’s success, and together we’ll come out of this crisis stronger than before.”
