Leader Russo to serve on Ohio Redistricting Commission
COLUMBUS —Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) today announced she will serve on the Ohio Redistricting Commission to redraw the state House and Senate legislative maps.
“I look forward to serving on the Ohio Redistricting Commission to redraw the state legislative maps to best represent the preferences of Ohio voters. This is a second chance to produce fair, 10-year state legislative maps that uphold the constitutional requirements Ohioans have called for not once, but twice. I am ready and eager to promptly conduct an open and transparent process to produce fair maps by the Court deadline.”
The state legislative maps passed by the Ohio Redistricting Commission in September along a 5-2 party line vote were ruled unconstitutional because they did not comply with the core anti-gerrymandering provisions of the Ohio Constitution. New 10-year state legislative maps would require the support of four out of seven Commission members, including both Democrats.
The Court has ordered the Ohio Redistricting Commission to redraw and adopt new maps by Jan. 24.
