Leader Heard: Two Years Later, Still Work to be Done

Ohio House Democratic Leader Tracy Maxwell Heard (D-Columbus) released the following statement in recognition of Ohioans’ defeat of the GOP’s dangerous attack on middle class families, Senate Bill 5. Two years ago Friday, the citizen referendum of Senate Bill 5—Issue 2 at the ballot—successfully defended the rights of middle class workers to collectively bargain for fair wages and safe work conditions.

“Today we celebrate the defeat of Senate Bill 5 and Issue 2, but not without understanding that there is still work to be done to stand up for a strong middle class in Ohio. Whether it’s Ohio Republicans’ top-down economic approach to cutting taxes for the rich, the massive cuts to public education and local communities or a looming GOP assault on middle class families with so-called 'Right to Work' legislation—the fight continues for a fair shot at a middle class lifestyle in our state.”
