Kristin Boggs sworn in as state representative for 18th House District
The Ohio House Democratic Caucus today swore in former assistant attorney general Kristin Boggs as state representative for the 18th House District. Boggs – the daughter of former State Senate Minority Leader and Ohio Department of Agriculture Director Bob Boggs – will take over the seat most recently held by former Rep. Michael Stinziano, who left at the end of 2015 to serve on Columbus City Council.
“Kristin’s passion for public service and dedication to fighting for working people will be a considerable asset to our caucus,” said Minority Leader Fred Strahorn (D-Dayton). “I am confident that with her experience as assistant attorney general and life-long advocacy work, Rep. Boggs will offer a unique and valuable perspective that will serve her constituents well.”
A screening committee led by Caucus Dean Rep. Jack Cera (D-Bellaire) and including Reps. Kevin Boyce (D-Columbus), Hearcel Craig (D-Columbus), Heather Bishoff (D-Blacklick) and Assistant Democratic Whip Nickie J. Antonio (D-Lakewood), recommended Boggs to fill the vacancy.
“I am looking forward to going to work for the people of the 18th House District, it will be an honor to serve the community. There are many important issues being debated at the statehouse, and I will strive to advance policies that keep central Ohio growing in the direction that our residents expect and deserve,” Boggs said. “Columbus enjoys a world class university system, a growing economy and thriving cultural community— I will work hard to make sure that all individuals and families have opportunity, equality, and success.”
After graduating from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Boggs, 37, joined the Office of the Ohio Attorney General, serving as an assistant attorney general for nearly 10 years. A native of Ashtabula, she attended Kent State University and served as an AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) volunteer before attending law school.
Along with her extensive background in public service, policy and legal issues, Boggs has served as a board member for the American Constitution Society since 2010, she volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Franklin County, and she was a working committee member of the Ohio Women’s Bar Association 2013 Leadership Institute.
