State Rep. and Ohio Legislative Black Caucus (OLBC) President Stephanie Howse (D-Cleveland) today released the following statement looking to the future and reflecting on the 2019 OLBC Legislative Day of Action held today at the Statehouse:

“For too many in our communities, Ohio’s promise of opportunity is fading. The annual OLBC Day of Action empowers our community to use their voices to hold their elected officials accountable and demand change on the issues that keep working people and families from getting ahead.

“Coming together as a community and family is so important to better engage and empower people to advocate for issues that matter to us and our state. Today’s event was an important reminder of our responsibility to create a government that works for everyone, but more importantly today represents an engagement and advocacy framework for black Ohioans to build upon year-round.

“In the coming weeks, I too look forward to building on that framework and detailing real changes we can make at the Statehouse to help protect, improve and enrich the lives of African American communities across Ohio.”

This year’s Day of Action theme, “Our Progress No Longer Deferred,” included panels on engaging the legislature, strengthening education and reforming the criminal justice system.
