COLUMBUS—State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) was pleased to join the unveiling ceremony and celebration for the Ohio Women’s Monument at the Ohio Statehouse.

The unveiling ceremony began at the Ohio Theatre and then moved to the South Plaza of the Ohio Statehouse where the monument was unveiled. The monument, which features four granite columns etched with the names of Ohio women and nine bronze figures representing women across generations, eras, and experiences, was designed by Brenda Councill.

The Ohio Women’s Monument is the result of more than six years of planning and collaboration among Ohio legislators and leaders, the Ohio Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission, the Capitol Square Foundation, the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board and the Ohio Arts Council. Richardson was appointed to the Ohio Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission in 2019 and has been passionate in her advocacy for this historic monument.

“7 years ago, I was appointed to serve on the Ohio Suffrage Centennial Commission with a desire to celebrate the courage, sacrifice and perseverance that led to women exercising their American right to vote,” said Richardson. “Today marked the culmination of a vision that grew from the Commission to commemorate the timeless lives and legacy of Ohioans by honoring the women who believed they could make a difference. The dedication of the Ohio Women’s Monument will stand as a reminder of the brave women who came before us, those who continue to serve today and inspire those in future generations. School groups and visitors will have the chance to interact and learn from the newest Statehouse addition, and I was privileged to be part of making the permanent monument possible for leaders to come!”
