Representative Richardson Announces House Passage of Legislation Creating Folds of Honor License Plate

COLUMBUS – The Ohio House of Representatives has approved legislation creating a new license plate to support scholarships for family members of veterans who died or were disabled during their service.

The bill’s sponsor, State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville), said she first learned about “Folds of Honor” when she was approached by Scott Alexander, president of their central Ohio chapter, and one of their board members, Bruce Lancia, during one of her monthly district constituent days.

During that meeting, Representative Richardson learned that the inspiration to help the families of veterans started when the remains of a fallen service member were observed being respectfully removed from a civilian airplane to be reunited with loved ones.

“The noble mission of Folds of Honor of Central Ohio is to leave no military family behind in their pursuit of education by providing support to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members,” Richardson said.

Under the bill, a $25 contribution from the sale of Folds of Honor license plates would be used to provide scholarships to a spouse or child either of disabled veterans or members of any branch of the armed forces who died during their service.

The measure, House Bill 262, now moves to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
