Members of the Veterans and Military Development Committee Tour 179th Cyber Wing in Mansfield

State Representatives Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville), Marilyn John (R-Richland County), and some members of the House Veterans and Military Development Committee yesterday took a tour of the 179th Cyber Wing in Mansfield.

The tour provided committee members with valuable insight into the U.S. Air Force’s September 2021 selection of the Mansfield Air National Guard Base to host the nation’s first Air National Guard Cyberspace Wing. Additionally, the committee learned about the base’s presence within the community. Members of the wing often meet with local students to discuss military opportunities and collaborate with businesses in the community.

“I was delighted to lead members of the Veterans and Military Development Committee, including Vice Chair Ty Mathews, Representative Meredith Craig, and Majority Floor Leader Marilyn John, to listen and learn from members of this unit,” said Richardson, who serves as Chair of the Committee. “The visit helped us understand and appreciate the 179th Wing’s significant impact on the success of warfighters and the economic vitality of our state.”

“It was a pleasure to welcome the Veterans and Military Development Committee to the 179th Airlift Wing,” said Rep. John. “I am proud to have the 179th in our community and was glad to share with my fellow state representatives the important work our Airmen do for Ohio and our nation.”

The 179th Cyber Wing’s mission statement is “Provide cyber-enabled capabilities supporting tactical needs in air superiority and information warfare.”
