House Committee Begins Hearings on Ohio Homeowners Relief Act
COLUMBUS—State Rep. Thomas Hall (R- Madison Twp.) yesterday provided sponsor testimony on the Ohio Homeowners Relief Act during House Ways and Means Committee.
This legislation will protect vulnerable Ohioans by modifying the procedures used by the Tax Commissioner to conduct property tax sales assessment ratio studies.
The Ohio Homeowners Relief Act came as a result of recent projections of steep property tax increases in 13 Ohio counties.
“After conversations with our constituents, local officials, State Senators and colleagues here in the Ohio House, Representative Bird and I knew we had to take legislative action,” said Hall during testimony. “I am thankful for the input from Butler County Auditor Nancy Nix, County Prosecutor Mike Gmoser, Commissioner Don Dixon, and the entire board of county commissioners. I look forward to seeing this bill move swiftly through the Ohio House.”
Key provisions of the bill are as follows:
- Requires the Tax Commissioner to weigh the past three years of a county’s property values in order to determine property tax.
- Applies to the 2023 tax season and years going forward.
House Bill 187 will continue to receive hearings in the House Ways and Means Committee.
