Patton Works to Combat Rising Taxes for Homeowners in New Bill

Strongsville, OH – On Tuesday, State Rep. Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) introduced House Bill 655, legislation to help low-income homeowners combat higher property taxes in Cuyahoga County. 

The legislation would stop property taxes from increasing indefinitely for owner-occupant homeowners who are enrolled in Medicare or Medicaid and have a combined gross income of less than $75,000. 

This bill provides relief for people who were hit the hardest by these cruel property tax increases,” said Patton. “Cuyahoga County homeowners should not have to worry about being priced out of their homes.” 

The county recently conducted its sexennial reappraisal with property value in the area increasing 32%. House Bill 655 is a renewed effort to protect low-earning homeowners in the county combat rampantly rising taxes as a result. It would be effective for tax year 2024, providing relief for residents before they make their 2025 payments.
