COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) announces that he will be co-sponsoring a resolution brought forth by State Representatives Bill Roemer (R-Richfield) and State Representative Andrea White (R-Kettering). The resolution condemns the unsolicited Russian Invasion of Ukraine.
“Ohio, the Cleveland Area in particular, has long been home to those of Ukrainian decent and I stand with them in condemning the Russian Federations deplorable and paining invasion of Ukraine,” said Patton. “This is a direct attack on the sovereignty of Ukraine and we must stand with our brothers and sisters or democracy during these trying times.”
In accordance with the 2019 United States Census Bureau Ohio is home to more than 42,000 Ukrainian immigrants of descendants.
Post-Cold War, Ukraine was granted independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and has since been a country with a civically engaged population built on the foundations of democracy.
As the conflict continues to escalate, western nations have shown their support for Ukraine’s sovereignty. While many Ukrainian citizens are fleeing their homes and migrating west, some remain fighting for democracy and freedom on their home soil serving as a beacon of hope.
