State Rep. Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) announces that the Ohio House of Representatives recently passed House Resolution 56. The legislation calls for the elimination of the E-Check program under the Federal Clean Air Act. Patton is a cosponsor on the resolution.

“I’ve been a staunch supporter of eliminating the E-Check program for the betterment of our taxpayers up here in Northeast Ohio,” said Patton.

Back in 2009, when Ohioans still used to pay directly for E-check, Patton notes he was responsible for eliminating this E-Check fee through legislation under House Bill 1 of the 128th General Assembly.

“My people may have to be greatly inconvenienced by this, but they will not have to pay for this troublesome duty,” Patton added.

The E-Check program requires Ohio citizens living within Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit Counties to get their vehicles tested every two years to pass regulatory emissions requirements.

To note, the program now exceeds a costly $19,390,000 for Fiscal Year ‘20 and partial Fiscal Year ’21.

On the issue surrounding E-Check, overall, air emissions are down as combined emissions of the six most common pollutions, including carbon monoxide, lead, nitrogen dioxide, and volatile organic compounds have dropped 71 percent.
