Patton Encourages Local Schools to Apply for Ohio K-12 School Safety Grant Program
State Rep. Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) announces the latest round for the Ohio K-12 School Safety Grant Program is now accepting applications. The initiative was made possible through legislation Patton cosponsored and supported to strengthen school security. The funding stems from House Bill 687, which allocates $100 million for this grant program.
“We recently announced many of our local school districts receiving substantial funding through the first round of funding from this program,” Patton said. “I’m happy to report that these schools can re-apply for more funding, and I encourage other schools who may have not applied yet to take a moment to do so to further enhance their school security to protect our kids.”
Earlier this month, Patton announced $706,786 in funding was being awarded to schools within the 7th Ohio House District.
The grant program is to assist districts with physical security enhancements, such as security cameras, public address systems, automatic door locks, visitor badging systems, and exterior lighting.
Patton also notes the continued importance of investing in mental health for children, which Patton supported through legislation at the Statehouse. Patton is a member of the House Finance Committee that oversaw the state budget process last year, in which the finalized bill included over $60 million more dollars from the previous state budget for the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Patton was a cosponsor of the bill and voted to support it before it was signed into law.
