A Legislative Update
The House was successful in passing a number of pieces of legislation in the last several weeks including the State Transportation Budget. This budget includes funding for maintaining our roadways and for highway projects.
My colleagues in the Ohio House and I work hard to improve the lives of the Ohioans we represent and I appreciate the opportunity to update you on these and other issues before us in the legislature.
Enact the FY24-FY25 Transportation Budget: The Ohio House passed the largest commitment of highway infrastructure spending in Ohio history with $12.6 billion in appropriations for Ohio’s transportation system over the next two years. House Bill 23 will help local contractors and small businesses create jobs and expand their workforces across the state.
Additionally, the Transportation Budget helps fund the Brent Spence Corridor project ensuring the continued flow of roughly $700 billion worth of freight annually.
Changes to Emergency Medical Services Training and Continuing Education Programs: The Drafting of HB 509 in the 134th GA would eliminate 86% of EMS training sites, mostly in rural communities. Reversing this unattended consequence, in Sub. HB 52, allows critical EMS services to operate without interruption.
Incorporate Changes in the Internal Revenue Code into Ohio Law: Senate Bill 10, simplifies the filing of state taxes for some individuals and businesses, following changes made to the federal tax code last year. In addition, it prevents some Ohio taxpayers from having to file different amounts of taxable income on their federal and state returns.
