Creech Issues Statement on Daylight Savings Time
COLUMBUS – State Representative Rodney Creech (R-West Alexandria) today issued the following statement regarding the Daylight Savings Time:
“Over the weekend, Ohioans once again set our clocks back an hour to transition out of daylight saving time (DST) into standard time.
“For only a third of the year we operate on standard time. Switching to DST would increase the hours of sunlight in the evenings year-round, and could help combat some mental health issues from the darker winter evenings we currently have on standard time. Studies have shown that year-round DST will reduce pedestrian car-accidents, reduce energy usage, and encourage physical fitness of youth since there is more time to enjoy the day.
“Representative Kyle Koehler (R-Springfield) and I have been working on House Concurrent Resolution 13, which urges Congress to enact the Sunshine Protection Act of 2021 to permanently transition us to Daylight Saving Time. H.C.R. 13 has been favorably reported out of the House State and Local Government Committee, and I hope that our leadership will soon bring this resolution to the House floor for a vote to help protect the safety and well-being of Ohioans.”
