Creech, Hall Reintroduce Legislation to Support 4H Students

COLUMBUS – State Reps. Rodney Creech (R-West Alexandria) and Thomas Hall (R-Madison Twp.) yesterday reintroduced legislation to support 4H students.

Under the proposed legislation, a student from kindergarten through twelfth grade will be excused for an absence that comes as a result of their participation in 4H. 

“4H is an important program for many Ohio students and they should not be penalized for their participation,” said Creech.

A student who will be participating in 4H, will be required to provide documentation proving their participation in the activity and the school district will then give the student the opportunity to make up any work missed due to the program. 

The student will not see any adverse impact on their grades as a result of their participation in 4H. A school administrator can deny a request under certain circumstances, such as conflicts with state assessments. 

“Agriculture is a major part of Ohio’s culture and economy and we could all benefit from learning more about its role in our state,” said Hall. “I will continue to support student participation in 4H.”

The legislation will receive a bill number and be referred to a House Committee.
