Reps. Robinson, Hoops Introduce Bipartisan Resolution Urging Congress Designate the Buckeye Trail as National Scenic Trail

COLUMBUS –State Reps. Phillip M. Robinson Jr. (D-Solon)and Jim Hoops (R-Napoleon) recently introduced a bipartisan House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) to urge U.S. Congress to designate the Buckeye Trail as a National Scenic Trail. 

“This resolution demonstrates the interconnectivity and beauty in our state. While also providing economic development opportunities and contributing to the health of communities that scenic trails bring to communities they connect. This project is a great example of successful cooperative work between two statehouse offices and the many Ohioans that love our parks, trails, and the natural beauty of the Buckeye state,” said Rep.Robinson.

The National Park Service will soon complete the Buckeye National Scenic Trail Feasibility Study for its consideration to be included in the short list of National Scenic Trails. If designated, the Buckeye Trail would be the nation’s 12th National Scenic Trail and the only one that has a circumferential route that covers an entire state. 

“The Buckeye Trail’s 1,454 miles showcase and connect the natural beauty, vibrant communities, history, and cultural richness found in Ohio, all while adding to Ohio’s tourism engine,” said Rep. Hoops. 

Created in 1959, the Buckeye Trail travels through 46 counties and 44 Ohio House Districts and serves as a source of Ohio culture, history, and economic opportunity through tourism.

The HCR is awaiting assignment to a House committee.
