Rep. Robinson condemns State School Board passage of anti-LGBTQ+ resolution that hurts hungry children across Ohio

COLUMBUS – Today, State Rep. Phil Robinson (D-Solon), Ranking Member on the House Primary and Secondary Education Committee, issued a statement after the Ohio State School Board of Education voted in favor of a resolution that urges local school districts to disregard a new federal rule requiring schools to investigate claims of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. By disregarding the federal rule, schools would risk losing breakfast and lunch funding for students.

“As elected officials, we have a duty to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all students," said Rep. Robinson. “This anti-LGBTQ+ resolution is nothing more than lawless, state-sanctioned bullying that hurts children and parents across Ohio. Rather than making hungry children the victims of extreme political ideology, the State School Board should be focused on helping our students recover from the learning losses suffered during the pandemic. Instead of making it about adults, it is well past time to put all of Ohio’s children first.”

State school report cards released in September show that student test scores in subjects like English and math remain below pre-pandemic levels.
