Rep. Robinson Announces Virtual Town Hall on Schools Reopening and July Virtual Events
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Phil Robinson (D-Solon) today announced his next virtual town hall as part of the second Ohio Promise Town Hall Tour. The Reopening Schools and Education During COVID-19 Virtual Town Hallwill be held Monday, July 20, at 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Facebook Live from his official Facebook pageto take questions and discuss the upcoming fall reopening of schools for the 2020-21 school year, as well as other struggles schools and parents are facing during the pandemic.
“With the fall academic year approaching fast and so many people with questions and concerns about reopening schools, it felt essential for me to make this the focus of my next virtual town hall,” said Rep. Robinson. “Families, school staff, and all Ohioans need to be heard on their feelings of when and how schools should reopen with the pandemic still not under control. I look forward to a good discussion from the panel I assembled and hopefully we can make a contribution to the overall conversation on balancing high quality education for students with the health and safety of teachers and our children.”
This will be Rep. Robinson’s first panel discussion style town hall. Leaders and representatives of teachers, parents, local schools, and county health officials will be participating in the panel with Rep. Robinson moderating as he poses questions and takes questions from people watching live.
The panel will include:
- Melissa Cropper, President of the Ohio Federation of Teachers (OFT)
- Scott DiMauro, President of the Ohio Education Association (OEA)
- Jackie Arendt, President-Elect of the Ohio Parent Teacher Association (Ohio PTA) and North Royalton City School Board member
- Joelle Magyar, Superintendent of Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District
- Suzanne Hrusch, MPH, RS, and School Environment Program Manager with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health (CCBH)
Rep. Robinson is also holding his next “Robinson Roundtable,” office hours on Saturday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will be held virtually on Facebook. For those who participate, there will be an option for those with mic and webcam access to have a direct Zoom video chat with Rep. Robinson.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Rep. Robinson and his office are still evaluating when it will be safe to hold in-person events again and will continue to hold events virtually until further notice.
