Rep. Isaacsohn Elected Ohio House of Representatives Minority Leader
COLUMBUS – The Ohio House of Representatives today elected State Rep. Dani Isaacsohn (D-Cincinnati) as the next minority leader for the House Democratic Caucus following the resignation of House Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington) from caucus leadership.
“It is incredibly humbling to be trusted by my colleagues to lead our caucus. I look forward to working together with each member on both sides of the aisle on supporting issues that put people first in Ohio, and I want to thank Leader Russo and the rest of the leadership team for their service to better the lives of all Ohioans.” said Leader Isaacsohn. “Ohio could and should be the best state in the country to raise a family, go to school, and grow older, but it will require a state government that is more committed to a good life being affordable and accessible for Ohioans than it is in serving the interests of donors and special interests. We have a long way to go to build the state that Ohioans deserve, and I am proud to lead this caucus in that fight.”
“I want to congratulate Representative Isaacsohn and the rest of the incoming House Democratic leadership team on their election. The future of Ohio is in good hands with this group of dedicated public servants,” said outgoing Minority Leader Allison Russo (D-Upper Arlington). “It has been a pleasure to work closely with Representative Isaacsohn over the past three years and witness firsthand the hard work he has committed himself to in ensuring our members are well-positioned to deliver real results for our communities and to keep fighting for the democratic values Ohioans hold dear. I look forward to supporting him as the new House Minority Leader.”
Also elected Tuesday to Ohio House Democratic Caucus leadership positions were Rep. Phillip M. Robinson, Jr. (D-Solon), who was elected assistant minority leader.
“Today is an exciting day for our caucus. I am grateful for the House Democratic caucus for allowing me the opportunity to serve as their next assistant minority leader. It is an honor to work alongside such an amazing group of public servants who are always ready to fight for the people,” said Assistant Minority Leader Robinson. “I’m eager to take on this awesome responsibility and will work tirelessly to fulfill the hopes and values of both this caucus and the people of Ohio. Let’s get to work!”
Rep. Beryl Brown Piccolantonio (D-Gahanna) as minority whip.
“It is an honor to have been selected by my colleagues as Minority Whip. I am excited to work with this strong team to lead our caucus on behalf of all Ohioans. We will continue to fight to protect public education, enact sensible property tax policy, safeguard reproductive rights, and support our local communities. I look forward to this opportunity to work towards an Ohio that welcomes and uplifts all of our residents,” said Minority Whip Brown Piccolantonio.
And Rep. Desiree Tims (D-Dayton) as assistant minority whip.
“I’m honored to serve as Assistant Minority Whip and continue the fight for the people of Ohio. Our communities deserve leaders who listen and deliver results. I’m ready to get to work with my colleagues to support working families, protect democracy, and do the work it takes to make life better for all Ohioans,” said Assistant Minority Whip Tims.
Leader Isaacsohn is committed to fighting for a world-class public education for every student, better childcare for parents, smarter housing policy to bring down prices and increase supply and making sure that seniors have what they need to age with dignity. He is also committed to creating a more just and equitable criminal justice system in Ohio.
