Santucci Announces State Funding Coming to Trumbull County
COLUMBUS— State Representative Nick Santucci (R- Howland Twp.) announces more than $3.3 million in state funding will be coming to the Trumbull County Land Reutilization Corporation and the historic Warren YMCA for the redevelopment and preservation of five properties around the county.
Funding for the redevelopment and preservation comes from the state’s Brownfield Remediation Program and Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program.
- $1.14 million to remediate a former steel mill site. This project includes cleanup and removal of environmental waste in preparation for future unknown development;
- $905,748 for the cleanup of the former Peerless Winsmith Factory. The project will require removal and cleanup of old deteriorated structures and other industrial waste. The cleanup will facilitate the expansion of a veteran-owned recycling center, creating 30 new jobs in the process;
- $165,000 for the remediation of the former KODU property. The site historically was used as a settling pond and for agricultural purposes. The site will require extensive remediation in preparation for a new community park;
- $123,750 for the remediation of the former Van Huffel Tube Company site. Currently operated by Trumbull Industries as a warehouse and manufacturing site, the property will be assessed for any environmental concerns before Trumbull Industries’ operations expand creating 10 new jobs.
The former Warren YMCA building will receive $2 million in Historic Preservation Tax Credits to rehabilitate the former 68-room dormitory into 42 residential units and restore the former gym and basketball court as resident amenities.
These projects are a part of the state’s $174 million investment through the Brownfield Remediation Program and Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program, to create economic growth and opportunity through the redevelopment of abandoned and dilapidated properties around Ohio.
