Rep. Michele Grim Calls for Action to Ensure Ohio's Rail Safety Following East Palestine Disaster
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Michele Grim (D- Toledo), along with members of the House Democratic Caucus, today sent a letter to the Ohio House Finance Committee and the Ohio House Transportation Subcommittee of Finance suggesting a series of amendments to the State Transportation Budget following the tragic events in East Palestine.
“The recent derailment in East Palestine has shown us that, as the state with the fifth highest rail traffic in the country, the safety of railway workers and the communities these trains pass through must be our number one priority. I am proud to have sponsored several amendments to the transportation budget that would strengthen railway safety measures, and I urge my colleagues on the Finance Committee to accept these amendments next week,” said Rep. Grim.
The Ohio House Finance Committee is scheduled to meet next on Tuesday, February 21st and the biennial Transportation Budget must be passed by Friday, March 31st.
