Rep. Grim Speaks at National Press Conference on Federal State-Based Universal Health Care Act
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Michele Grim (D-Toledo) today participated in a press conference on Capitol Hill announcing the federal State-Based Universal Health Care Act, which is being introduced by Congressman Ro Khanna (D-California) and Senator Ed Markey (D- Massachusetts).
"I’m proud to support the State-Based Universal Health Care Act as the lead sponsor of Ohio House Bill 289, the Ohio Health Care Plan Act. Medical debt should not exist. Families shouldn’t face financial ruin just because someone got sick. The Ohio Health Care Plan Act would guarantee health care for every Ohioan. No copays, no deductibles, no surprise bills. But states like ours can’t do this alone. We need federal support and flexibility to make universal coverage a reality,” said Rep. Grim.
Along with the members of Congress, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington) and Rep. Grim, state legislators from across the country shared their versions of state led single payer healthcare. The State-Based Universal Health Care Act would return authority to each state to make healthcare decisions. The legislation prioritizes a nation where Ohioans and all Americans can access healthcare when they need it, how they need it, and without fear of financial destitution.
