Rep. Grim Celebrates Rail Safety Week 2023

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Michele Grim (D- Toledo) this week celebrates Rail Safety Week, which runs September 18th through September 24th in Ohio. In 2022, Ohio ranked number 8 in the United States for Collisions & Fatalities by State, according to the Federal Railroad Administration.

“The derailment in East Palestine has shown us that tragedies on the track can occur when we are least expecting it. It is essential we remain vigilant in our efforts to bring awareness to an issue as important as rail safety. I am proud to have co-sponsored the bipartisan House Resolution 250, recognizing this week as Rail Safety Week in Ohio,” said Rep. Grim.

Reps. Grim and Jim Hoops (R-Napoleon) introduced House Resolution 250, in light of rail disasters such as the East Palestine derailment. Rail is a large part of the Ohio economic force and safety efforts surrounding it deserve to be recognized at the highest level.

Operation Life Saver is a Rail Safety Education organization that will be honoring this week with a set of daily themes and social media outreach. Operation Life Saver does work year-round to keep the public and rail workers alike, aware of rail safety.
