Rep. Grim Announces $900K for Sexual Assault Kit Testing
COLUMBUS– State Rep. Michele Grim (D-Toledo) today announced that multiple non-profits, county, and city agencies have received nearly $900K from The Ohio Department of Public Safety, as a part of the state’s new Ohio Sexual Assault Investigations Grant Program. Funding will be used to improve training surrounding the collection of sexual assault kits, investigations surrounding sexual assault, and supporting survivor programs across the state.
“I applaud the commitment to funding sexual assault test kits, which is a crucial step in preventing a backlog in testing and ensuring swift justice for survivors. This investment not only supports our communities but also underscores our dedication to a fair and compassionate response for survivors of sexual violence,” said Rep. Grim.
During the passage of the most recent operating budget (HB 33) Rep. Grim secured an amendment that ensures victims of sexual assault have the right to know the status of their examination kit. The amendment further requires the Ohio Attorney General to compile data regarding sexual assault examination kit inventory throughout the state and release an annual report to the public.
