Rep. Grim Announces $548K for City of Toledo Department of Transportation and YMCA of Greater Toledo
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Michele Grim (D-Toledo) today announced that City of Toledo Department of Transportation and the YMCA of Greater Toledo have received $548,431 from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School program, to support the construction of additional sidewalks and crosswalks surrounding schools in the Toledo area.
“Children’s only worry should be what they learned during that school day, not of any possible dangers on the way home. Motorists have an innate responsibility to remain vigilant while driving and keep an eye out for our most vulnerable pedestrians. I am thrilled that funding from the Safe Routes to School program will directly support local students and most importantly, their safety,” said Rep. Grim.
Funding will be directed to the construction of:
- A sidewalk on the south side of McGregor from Secor Rd. to Hiawatha Elementary and a walkway on the north side of McGregor between Secor and Gay.
- A sidewalk on the east side of Fairgreen Rd. between Photos Ln. and McGregor including a crosswalk and pedestrian ramps.
- A sidewalk on the west side of Rambo Ln. from Quast Ln. to Alexis Rd. and on Quast Ln. from Rambo Ln. to Jr. High School.
Additional funding will be directed through the YMCA of Greater Toledo for continued programming related to safe ridership practices, community safety, and educational campaigns. Funding through the YMCA will also help to support Girls in Gear, a bike education program for young girls to gain confidence, learn about bike maintenance, and safety.
