COLUMBUS – State Reps. Meredith Lawson-Rowe (D-Reynoldsburg) and Kellie Deeter (R-Norwalk) Wednesday announced the unanimous passage of Senate Bill (SB) 18 by the Ohio House of Representatives, which would designate February 14th as Cardiovascular Awareness Day in Ohio.

“I am elated to announce the passage of my Senate Bill 18 out of the House,” said Rep. Lawson-Rowe. “Enhancing Cardiovascular Awareness Day in law will go a long way in ensuring that Ohioans are informed about heart health and healthy heart lifestyles.”

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Ohio and the United States and affects individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and communities, accounting for nearly one in three deaths across the country. Despite advancements in medical treatment and research, many of these deaths are preventable through increased education, early detection, and proactive health choices.

SB 18, sponsored by State Senators Hearcel Craig (D-Columbus) and Michele Reynolds (R-Canal Winchester), is a companion bill to Reps. Lawson-Rowe and Deeter’s House Bill 104, which was introduced last year.

SB 18 now heads to Governor DeWine's desk where it awaits his signature.
