Rep. McNally Shares Impact of $13.4M TANF Distribution on Mahoning Valley

COLUMBUS — State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today shared the impact of up to $13.4M in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funding in District 58 and Mahoning County. Fifty-five organizations, national, state, and local, will receive funds to help families in need. This money comes from the state operating budget (HB 96) and the Governor’s office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives.
“So many Ohioans are struggling to make ends meet. I know that this influx of TANF dollars will go a long way in helping so many people. I am happy to see that the Mahoning Valley will have a chance to use this money for good,” said Rep. McNally.
National, state, and organizations local to the Mahoning Valley receiving funding include:
- Operation Warm – a national nonprofit that provides new coats and shoes to eligible children.
- The Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs – a nonprofit with the mission of enabling all young people to reach their full potential as productive caring, responsible citizens. Funding is for workforce development services for eligible youth.
- Catholic Charities Regional Agency – provides tangible assistance and other essential services to meet basic human needs, strengthen families, build communities, and empower others to transform their lives.
- The Ohio Domestic Violence Network – a nonprofit organization that advances the principles that all people have the right to an oppression and violence-free life; fosters changes in our economic, social, and political systems; and brings leadership, expertise, and best practices to community programs.
- The Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation - a nonprofit organization that works to reducing the stigma of suicide, promote evidence-based prevention strategies, and raise awareness about suicide’s relationship to mental illness and substance use disorders, and other factors that contribute to suicide.
- Marion Goodwill Industries Inc. – a county Goodwill that will provide workforce development training to eligible children in 28 Ohio counties.
- Children's Hunger Alliance – a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger. Receiving funding to provide food assistance statewide.
- The Ohio Council of Churches - a Christian ecumenical council that advocates on a multitude of issues and gives assistance in BWC cases and mental health resources.
