COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today, announced her appointment to the Ohio Ireland Trade Commission.

“This commission is an exciting new economic development tool for our state, and I’m honored to be a part of it,” said Rep. McNally. “Ohio has always had strong mutual trade with Ireland but the more recent JobsOhio investment with AerLingus has really put a spotlight on that both here and in Europe. We need to keep the momentum going which is why now is the perfect time to get the Ohio Ireland Trade Commission off the ground.”

Rep. McNally attended the American Irish State Legislators Caucus (AISLC) Summit in August of 2023, which was part of the 25th Anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. At the summit, Rep. McNally met with business and political leaders about trade opportunities and worked alongside AISLC Chair and Irish Fianna Fáil politician, Senator Mark Daly on legislation creating an Ohio Ireland Trade Commission. In the 135th General Assembly, that goal came to fruition with Senate Bill 195.  The Speaker of the House recently made appointments to the commission.

The Ohio Ireland Trade Commission will:

  • Consist of nine members, with three members appointed from each chamber of the General Assembly and three members appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the Senate;
  • Study certain economic and policy issues and potential business and academic exchanges;
  • Set out procedures for the internal operations of the commission; and
    I
  • ssue annual reports of its activities and any findings and recommendations.
