Rep. McNally Announces Youngstown's Designation as an America 250-Ohio City
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced Youngstown’s designation as an America 250-Ohio City, providing opportunities for local leaders to network, partner, and exchange information with the Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial (America 250-Ohio).
“Everywhere I go in the state, you hear unique stories about people from Youngstown and where they are now. I am so proud to be from the Mahoning Valley, and they are too. Youngstown has an incredibly rich history from everything to art and manufacturing, and I’m thrilled the state is honoring that history with this designation,” said Rep. McNally. “I’m looking forward to working with our local leaders to celebrate this momentous time in our nation.”
America 250-Ohio is a multi-year commemoration where Ohioans from all 88 counties will be in the spotlight celebrating Ohio’s unique role and impact in our nation’s story. It was formed through the OH. Rev. Code § 149.309 and announced on March 1, 2022, on Ohio's Statehood Day. The 29-member commission is charged with preparing the state to participate in the United States of America's 250th anniversary which culminates on July 4, 2026.
“They say no matter where you are in the United States there’s always a Youngstown connection. When it comes to our storied history and our impact that couldn’t be truer,” said Youngstown Mayor Jamael Tito Brown. “From being the birthplace of Good Humor, the Warner Brothers and countless athletes and actors, the steel industry of yesterday to leading the charge as a hub for advanced manufacturing technology and research today, Youngstown has a history of innovation that has always been at the forefront of driving America forward. As America embarks on its 250th anniversary, we are honored to be part of the celebration by sharing Youngstown’s part in our country’s journey.”
The America 250-Ohio City designation opens the door for local organizations to be eligible for grants of up to $5k that can be used to plan activities and events that complement America 250-Ohio programs. They will also receive access to resources like digital toolkits, an online community platform, regular check-ins with other America 250-Ohio communities, recognition of their participation in America 250-Ohio celebrations and commemorations as well as the opportunity to develop and grow professionally and personally.
