Rep. McNally Announces Afterschool Child Enrichment Program Event
COLUMBUS- State Representative Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) and First-Ward City of Youngstown Councilman Julius Oliver today announced an event with the Ohio Department of Education on the Afterschool Child Enrichment (ACE) Educational Savings Account program, a program providing qualifying families with a $500 credit to pay for enrichment activities like tutoring, day camps, and before-or after-school educational programs.
“Our children need access to these various enrichment programs because they get to try new things. We want to encourage them to test their skills and enhance their quality of life,” said Rep. McNally.
“Families in Youngstown deserve these opportunities. By investing in our youth, we are investing in the future,” said Councilman Oliver.
The event, which will take place on Saturday, February 25th from 12:00pm-2:00pm at the Choffin Career and Technical Center (200 E. Wood St., Youngstown, OH 44503), will provide onsite technical assistance for families wishing to enroll in the ACE program. To be eligible for the ACE program, families must have children between the ages of 6-18 and fall at or below the 300% FPL. Families must bring the last four digits of their child’s social security number, as well as income verification, to the event in order to enroll.
“It’s our job to be connectors. This is an existing state program. I want our Youngstown families in need to know about it and then actually be able to use it,” said Rep. McNally.
“It takes a village. It’s exciting to think about how many more Youngstown kids will be able to access things like museums or music lessons because we held this event and their parents got that needed boost,” said Councilman Oliver.
