COLUMBUS — State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced the Controlling Board has approved $92,930 for Youngstown State University (YSU) at part of the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s (ODPS) and Chancellor of Higher Education’s Campus Safety Grant Program.

“A huge portion of YSU’s student population is home grown right here in the Mahoning Valley. Their student experience on campus directly impacts their choices while they study and, if they graduate, what they will do next,” said Rep. McNally. “The safer we keep these learners the more likely the talents they’ve honed here will stay here. I’ll happily do what I can to ensure this happens.”

The Campus Safety Grant Program provides funding to state institutions of higher education for eligible security improvements that assist the institutions in improving the overall physical security and safety of their buildings on public campuses throughout Ohio, awarding grants competitively to eligible state institutions of higher education. Upon release of the funds, YSU will use them for security cameras, the installation of the cameras, display monitors and batteries.
