COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced that the Ohio Controlling Board approved $85,883.51 in funding to Youngstown State University (YSU) to purchase Portable Measurement Tools Learning System, a UV 3D printer, and Virtual Welding equipment.
“In order for YSU and the Mahoning Valley to stay competitive with the rest of the state, it is important to have the most up to date technology and embrace this opportunity for the next generation of leaders. This is an exciting investment in YSU and will give students a hands-on learning experience,” said Rep. McNally.
This funding is a part of the Department of Education’s Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills (RAPIDS) program. This program creates partnerships between business and higher education institutions. This project is funded through their Workforce Based Training and Equipment line item and is meant to support education and skill training of students. The goal of these funding opportunities is to meet the current and future talent needs of growing, emerging and high demand industries through investments in capital equipment and facilities. YSU has been working closely with regional stakeholders to propose an innovative strategy for manufacturing education.
