Rep. McNally Announces $315,205 For Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced that the Ohio Controlling Board approved $315,205 for construction services at the Ohio State Penitentiary.
“It doesn’t matter if we are talking about roads, or houses, or prisons, infrastructure is important. This money will go a long way in improving conditions and I was happy to see the prison partner with a neighboring county to get the job done,” said Rep. McNally.
The Ohio State Penitentiary, located in Youngstown, was opened in 1998 and is the only “supermax” prison in the state. It is one of 28 institutions that the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections operates. The Ohio State Penitentiary received funds for infrastructure and building improvements. These include work to the structural support columns, installing masonry dividing walls with doors and hardware, and adding more HVAC units.
The prison was able to partner with a Trumbull County company, United Contractors of Northeast Ohio Inc., for construction services.
