COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced $265,100 in Department of Development Brownfield Remediation Program funding for the Mahoning County Land Reutilization Corporation.

“Safely redeveloping a site so close to Stambaugh Auditorium and areas of our community that attract patrons and guests is really important for our long-term goals in the Mahoning Valley,” said Rep. McNally. “I’m thankful our local partners sought out these state dollars.”

The Brownfield Remediation Program provides grants for the cleanup of brownfield sites, to assist in the remediation of hazardous substances or petroleum at an industrial, commercial, or institutional property.

The $265,100 award for the Mahoning County Land Reutilization Corporation will be used for a project at 1034 Wick Ave. The project involves removing universal and hazardous waste, including asbestos, from a deteriorated structure formerly used as an auto parts store. The property has been vacant for several years and is in significant disrepair, with collapsed ceilings and rusted materials. The remediation will include asbestos abatement, building demolition, and site restoration with clover ground cover. The project is expected to create six new jobs.

Today’s announcement represents the sixth round of funding for the program, awarding $29Mto thirty-six projects in twenty-three countries. The Building Demolition and Site Revitalization Program is funded by the Ohio General Assembly as part of the current operating budget.
