Rep. McNally announces $2,260,696 for Ohio State Penitentiary
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced $2,260,696 from the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) for the Ohio State Penitentiary (OSP) located in Youngstown.
“This project request is an important first step for the renovation of the Ohio State penitentiary, as the responsibility of our state inmates is in our hands,” said Rep. McNally. “It is crucial that we improve the functionality of the penitentiary as well as enhance security conditions for officers.”
Opened in 1998, the OSP currently houses approximately 491 incarcerated persons. The funding request to ODRC will support construction services for the Control Center Officer’s Station Renovation Project. The scope of work consists of relocating monitors to the ceiling as well as installing new cabinets, countertops, and furniture. Additionally, the funding will support the redesign of the officer’s station to better maintain visual contact with the incarcerated population as well as tend to any associated electrical outlets and lighting as required.
The work will be performed by United Contractors of Northeast Ohio in Trumbull County whose recommended contractor bid is less than the filed estimate. $2,085,500 are allocated for construction services with the remaining $170,443.52 for the owner’s contingency.
