COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced that the Ohio Controlling Board has approved $144,031.04 for the Ohio State Penitentiary. This will be used for professional design services for the Sanitary Line Evaluation Project. This project’s end goal is to replace the food service ductile iron sanitary line. This project is in the planning stage and capital funds will help with design, planning, and evaluation of need.

“I recently had a chance to visit the Ohio State Penitentiary and understand the need to keep such a large complex updated and running smoothly. This is a great opportunity to improve conditions,” said Rep. McNally.

The prison was able to partner with an Ohio based company for the project and the work will be completed by a group from Westlake, Ohio. The Ohio State Penitentiary, located in Youngstown, was opened in 1998 and is the only “supermax” prison in the state. It is one of 28 institutions that the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections operates.
