Rep. McNally Announces $1,136,000 in Grants to Combat Homelessness in Mahoning, Columbiana County
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced that the Ohio Department of Development awarded $1,136,000 in grants to combat homelessness in Mahoning and Columbiana Counties.
“Housing is among the most basic of needs and as a society we cannot accept that anyone, especially veterans who are most likely to struggle, should not have access to a roof over their heads,” said Rep. McNally. “I’m very thankful these organizations are doing this work in Mahoning Valley and are getting the funding resources they need from the state.”
Funding was allocated to these nonprofit and local government agencies for homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing, administration, and data evaluation:
- $836,000 for Community Action Agency of Columbiana County, Inc. in Columbiana County to provide rapid re-housing and homelessness prevention assistance to eligible recipients in Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Jefferson, and Tuscarawas counties and to assist 140 households with rapid re-housing and 95 households with homelessness prevention during the two-year period.
- $300,000 for Catholic Charities Regional Agency in Mahoning County to provide rapid re-housing assistance to eligible recipients in Columbiana, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties and to assist 154 households during the two-year period.
In total, $20.5M was awarded through the Homeless Crisis Response program to assist 47 nonprofit and local government agencies across the state with homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing, and emergency shelter services. The funds will assist 34 agencies operating emergency shelters and support 13 housing stability programs to benefit 64,676 Ohioans.
