Annual Department of Education and Workforce Report Card for District 59 Announced by Rep. McNally
COLUMBUS - State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced that the Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) has released 2023-2024 School Report Card data. Report cards are designed to give parents, communities, educators, and policymakers information about the performance of districts and schools — to celebrate achievement and success as well as identify areas for improvement.
“My office immediately went to work reviewing these scores and asking questions. We know that report card grades triggered an Academic Distress Commission for Youngstown City Schools and this data is being used to determine the progress being made on their academic improvement plan,” said Rep. McNally. “We’ve left messages with the DEW to schedule conversations and I’m more than happy to take any concerns from the community and share them back with the DEW.”
The Ohio General Assembly amended Ohio’s accountability law in the summer of 2021. Starting in 2022, schools began using a 1–5 star rating system in five categories: achievement, progress, early literacy, gap closing, and graduation.
Ohio House Democrats have introduced the Learning & Education Advancement Package (LEAP) Initiative, legislation to reaffirm K-12 public education as a Democratic priority, setting goals and standards for our education system. House Democrats are committed to creating a state that works for and supports all Ohio children’s education, regardless of race, gender, income, and zip code.
