Rep. Humphrey Condemns Act of Gun Violence Involving Death of 13-year-old Victim
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Latyna M. Humphrey (D-Columbus) today condemned yet another act of gun violence in southeast Columbus, the latest happening on August 8th after a similar incident occurred less than a month ago in the same area. The latest incident took place on Monmouth Court, off Agler Road, where Kamarion Woody, who had just turned 13 a few days earlier, was rushed to Mount Carmel East but sadly died. While police have yet to make any arrests, they suspect that other teenagers may be involved.
“I mourn for Kamarion and for what his family is going through right now. No family should be in the circumstances that Kamarion’s family is in, and it is our job as a legislature to be a tool towards ending the gun violence that plagues our community,” said Rep. Humphrey. “We must do everything in our power to stop guns from falling into the hands of children, and to prevent as much tragedy as we can. How many more young children must fall victim to needless violence that is occurring daily?”
Rep. Humphrey restates the need for bills like HB 420, Enact the Building Safer Communities for Ohio’s Children Act, and HB 419, Enact the Universal Background Checks Act to be passed with bipartisan support.
“It is no longer a political issue, and we cannot avoid this by calling it a difference of opinion. This is life or death now,” said Rep. Humphrey.
