Rep. Brent votes no on anti-vaccine legislation that would prolong pandemic, destabilize economy

State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today voted against House Bill (HB) 218, Republican-back legislation that contains last-minute changes to prohibit schools, universities and employers from requiring students or employees to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. It would also bar public and private entities from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for any reason.

Rep. Brent votes against HB 99 and HB 227

State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today voted in opposition to two bills opponents say would make schools and communities less safe and fail to address gun violence in Ohio. House Bill (HB) 99 would allow school districts to arm teachers in the classroom without adequate training or safe storage requirements, while HB 227 would eliminate concealed weapon training and safety standards, including penalties for failing to notify police of a concealed weapon during a stop.

Rep. Brent issues statement in support of Ohio House Democrats' proposed congressional map

State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today announced her support for House Bill (HB) 483, legislation sponsored by State Reps. Richard Brown (D-Canal Winchester) and Tavia Galonski (D-Akron), to establish Ohio’s new congressional districts. This map keeps large communities together and is a realistic plan that can pass with bipartisan support.

Rep. Brent announces $122 million to confront child and elder abuse, mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and support affordable housing projects

Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) announced today that the state Controlling Board approved several items of note this week, including the allocation of $9.5 million, through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) and the Child Abuse Prevention Act, to confront child and elder abuse, as well as an additional $7.5 million over the next two years to conduct home assessments for children in foster care.

Reps. Howse and Brent announce the Ohio Retirement Savings Program to promote financial security and stability for Ohioans

Reps. Stephanie Howse (D-Cleveland) and Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) testified before the House Insurance Committee Wednesday on House Bill (HB) 416, their legislation that would promote financial security and stability for Ohioans after they retire. The bill would create The Ohio Retirement Savings Program (ORSP), a supplemental pension plan in addition to Social Security benefits.

Reps. Brent and Weinstein introduce resolution to urge Congress to recognize Ohio Holocaust Memorial as National Memorial

State Reps. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) and Casey Weinstein (D-Hudson) introduced a concurrent resolution this week to urge Congress to recognize the Kol Israel Foundation Holocaust Memorial as a National Memorial. The memorial is located in Zion Memorial Park in Bedford Heights, OH and is believed to be the first memorial constructed in the United States dedicated to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust.
