Rep. Brent issues statement in support of Ohio House Democrats' proposed congressional map
State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) today announced her support for House Bill (HB) 483, legislation sponsored by State Reps. Richard Brown (D-Canal Winchester) and Tavia Galonski (D-Akron), to establish Ohio’s new congressional districts. This map keeps large communities together and is a realistic plan that can pass with bipartisan support.
“The Ohio House Democrats’ proposed congressional map version is constitutional and keeps communities together,” said Rep. Brent. “This map would allow communities of color a voice and reflect how Ohioans tend to vote. It does not gerrymander in favor of either party, and it lives up to the reforms Ohioans voted for in 2018. On the other hand, the Republicans’ map in HB 479 unduly favors Republicans and splits communities apart to enhance their power and take away Ohioans’ voices.”
HB 479 and HB 483 remain under consideration before the House Government Oversight Committee.
