Rep. Brent issues statement after 4th anniversary of Stoneman Douglas High School shooting
COLUMBUS– State Rep. Juanita Brent (D-Cleveland) issued a statement after the 4th anniversary of the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. On Feb. 14, 2018, a gunman entered Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, killing 17 students and staff members, and injuring 17 others.
“I’m tired of hearing legislators say they are ‘pro-life’ while refusing to pass legislation that would prevent senseless gun deaths,” said Rep. Brent. “I have co-sponsored numerous commonsense gun safety bills that have not received one committee hearing in the Ohio House.”
While the vast majority of gun safety legislation proposed by Ohio House Democrats have not received any committee hearings, dangerous GOP legislation like SB 215, which would allow concealed carry of guns without training or background checks, has sped through the legislature in the past year.
