Rep. Brent Celebrates Passage of Homestead Exemption Bill Combating Rising Property Taxes
COLUMBUS - State Rep. Juanita O. Brent (D-Cleveland) today announced the passage of House Bill (HB) 274, a bill that creates a $50,000 enhanced homestead exemption for long-term homeowners.
“Property tax affordability is the missing piece to increasing population in Ohio,” said Rep. Brent. “I voted for this bill because Ohio must support homeowners that have shown to be committed to staying in our state for decades even into their golden years.”
HB 274 would establish an enhanced Homestead Exemption for certain long-term homeowners who qualify for the general Homestead Exemption and have occupied their home for 20 or more consecutive years. This bill will benefit an estimated 461,450 Ohio homeowners who would qualify for the enhanced reduction.
HB 274 will head to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
