State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today called on Statehouse leaders to repeal Ohio’s new no duty to retreat law, which passed in December 2020. Democratic-sponsored legislation, House Bill (HB) 38, would repeal the new shoot first law that takes effect Tuesday. 

COLUMBUS – State Reps. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) and Bill Roemer (R-Richfield) today testified on House Bill (HB) 44, bipartisan legislation to secure protections for sports officials. This bill would bring the penalty for assaulting a referee on the job or in retaliation for a prior incident closer in line with current legislation protecting teachers, school administrators and bus drivers.

Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) and House Democratic lawmakers Wednesday voted in opposition to Senate Bill (SB) 22, controversial Republican legislation that would threaten the health and safety of Ohioans by curbing authority from the governor and health director during public health crises. 

State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) Thursday voted in favor of House Bill (HB) 67, legislation to adjust state testing requirements for the 2020-21 school year. Democrats did say, however, that more needs to be done to support students and teachers during the pandemic.

Today, Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) applauded the House passage of House Bill (HB) 93, legislation to modify the state’s address confidentiality program (Safe at Home), a long-held Democratic priority that allows victims of domestic violence, stalking, rape, human trafficking, or sexual battery who fear for their safety to keep their address confidential and out of the public record.

State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today applauded the Ohio House passage of House Bill (HB) 2, a long-held Democratic priority that would create the Ohio Residential Broadband Expansion Program, specifically designed to bring broadband access to unserved residential households in both rural and urban areas of the state.

COLUMBUS- State Reps. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) and Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) today announced the reintroduction of legislation that would require one-time performance audits of school districts with a current Academic Distress Commission (ADC). This legislation was formerly House Bill (HB) 529 in the 133rd General Assembly, which received one hearing in the House Primary & Secondary Education Committee.

COLUMBUS—State Reps. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) and Al Cutrona (R-Canfield)  had their first hearing yesterday on House Bill (HB) 54 in the House Primary & Secondary Education Committee. HB 54 is a re-introduction of Sub. HB 154 from the 133rd General Assembly, and it would dissolve Academic Distress Commissions (ADCs), requiring improvement plans instead for certain low-performing school buildings. Sub. HB 154 passed the House in a bipartisan fashion in May of 2019 by a vote of 83-12.
