Rep. Miller testifies on bipartisan legislation to aid veterans in emergency situations
COLUMBUS –Yesterday, State Reps. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) and Rep. Holmes (R-Nashport) provided sponsor testimony for House Bill (HB) 581, legislation to allow County Veterans Service Commissions (CVSCs) to use credit cards for certain expenses. Current law only allows county agencies to use county-issued credit cards for travel, vehicle maintenance, food, phone, and internet expenses. HB 581 would expand exceptions to aid veterans in emergency situations.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to shine a light on an issue that CVSCs are facing across our state with credit card use. This added flexibility should be taken to continue to serve our veterans,” said Rep. Miller.
HB 581 is a companion bill to SB 287 that was favorably reported in the Ohio Senate. HB 581 now awaits additional hearings in the Armed Services and Veteran’s Affairs Committee.
