COLUMBUS—State Representative Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today released a statement following the dangerous and partisan attack on Dr. Amy Acton by House Republicans:

“Dr. Amy Acton’s job is to save lives and she is doing just that. I trust science and the advice of medical professionals. If the claim is too much power, there are already checks in place. If it is the health and safety of Ohioans it should not be a partisan issue. The legislature needs to come together now more than ever, and these last minute amendments submitted without input from a third of the legislators just goes to show they are not looking to serve all Ohioans but to force through wins for their base.”

The amendment was attached to Senate Bill 1 in today’s State and Local Government Committee meeting without advance notice or any public testimony and was discharged from committee on a party-line vote, with all Democratic members voting against it.

The amended bill now goes to the Senate for a vote.
