Rep. Joe Miller Announces $267,557 in Controlling Board Funds to District 53 & Lorain County
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Joe Miller (D-Amherst) today announced the Controlling Board’s approval of two funding requests: $197,741 for a Lorain County Community College Campus Safety Grant and $69,816 for an Avon Lake park project through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’s NatureWorks Program.
“Investing in the safety of our college students and expanding access to outdoor recreation directly contributes to the well-being of our community,” said Rep. Joe Miller. “These funds will strengthen security at Lorain County Community College and install an all-inclusive playground at Bleser Park in Avon Lake. I’m proud to support these initiatives that foster growth, safety, and opportunity.”
The Campus Safety Grant Program funding will be used by Lorain County Community College to make eligible security improvements to the campus. These funds are administered through the Director of Public Safety in coordination with the Chancellor of Higher Education.
The NatureWorks funding will be used by the City of Avon Lake towards an all-inclusive playground at Bleser Park. The NatureWorks local outdoor recreation grant program, administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, requires funding to be divided between Ohio's 88 counties using a legislatively mandated per capita formula. Local governments in 73 Ohio counties submitted a total of 161 applications requesting a total of $8,200,687 in grant funding.
